From the €1 euro fee to defog a mirror and be able to take a picture inside a church, to the ongoing long lines that wrap around the block for a sandwich from All’Antico Vinaio, all the way to buying charms in the shape of the colosseum, a slice of pizza and an Italian flag:
TikTok’s impact on mass tourism in Rome is only increasing.

“What would we do without Tik Tok?” said E.P, 18, as she waited in line.

After influencers began to post TikToks of the perfect mirror picture with the beautiful fresco inside the Church of Sant’ Ignazio in Rome, thousands of people began to visit the church to do the same, “transforming the former hidden gem into a tourist attraction,” according to an article from The Guardian.

A TikTok post from ‘foodie’ influencer @jacksdinningroom went viral showing behind- the- scenes clips of “All’Antico Vinaio.” The post received 18.9 million views, which led tourists to add the restaurant onto their list of places to visit in Italy. They have Schiacciata bread fresh out of the oven every five minutes and coated with olive oil. The menu has different sandwich options with an assortment of meats, cheeses, spreads, and more.

One of the most popular sandwiches is the La Paradiso which has Mortadella, cream of pistachio, stracciatella, and chopped pistachios. Outside the store, people eat, chat, and take pictures of their sandwiches. According to news.com.au, the store reported making 10,000 sandwiches every weekend that customers often enjoy eating while sitting on the steps in front of the Pantheon.

Rain or shine, Paolina Roma continually has a long line of people waiting to make a charm bracelet in the heart of Rome. The store bar has a wide variety of charms including Italy specific ones, with iconic slice of pizza, the Colosseum, a croissant, and the Italy flag. The store’s TikTok, @Paolina_Roma, went viral reaching 3.3 million views on one of their posts about the charm bar leading to even more tourists to stop by the place daily.
