Just a one-hour train ride outside of the center of Rome, the lake town Bracciano is a beautiful vacation spot for many people from May until September. However, during the fall and winter, silence falls upon the small town.
“The small historic center of the town, perched on the hill, offers the possibility of pleasant walks on foot; walking through its picturesque alleys, with the silence broken only by the sound of your own footsteps, you forget about modernity” as described by the center of tourism in Bracciano.
The colder weather brings fewer tourists and vacationers to Bracciano leading to the scenic town transitioning to a temporary shutting-down period. Lakeside restaurants, bars, gift shops, grocery stores, and other establishments are all impacted by this offseason and temporarily close during the cooler seasons.
The town experiences a ghost effect as many of the normal streets and places that are filled with people are now barren and empty. While still a peaceful escape from the hectic Rome center, there is a significant drop-in activity
The town has many great tourist and vacation attractions. The main attraction being Lago Bracciano, a volcanic lake with stunning views, boat rentals, beaches, and lakeside bars, it is a perfect location to relax on a warm summer day. Towering over the lake and standing in the heart of the town is Orsini-Odescalchi Castle, an old medieval castle that is filled with old relics and a self-guided tour. The town also provides a Sunday market in Piazza IV Novembre and many local art shops.
Yet, life continues on for the 18,000 residents as the people of Bracciano adjust to the closures within their town.
