Celestial Compatibility: Stellar Soulmates or a Cosmic Clash?

Astrology

Dear Readers,

It is a pleasure to welcome you back to the astrology section of The Matthew.

Rather than attempt to spell out what is in the cards for you this month or give a deep analysis of your sign that will inevitably leave you in a state of existential dread, I have decided to provide you with hope regarding your celestial compatibility.

One of the most extensive talks among the astrological community as of late has been celestial compatibility; more specifically, I’ve come across articles titled “What Zodiac Signs You Should Stay Away from” and “The Least Compatible Zodiac Signs for Marriage.” If you ask me, these are articles that say a whole lot of nothing

At the Astrology Corner, we are here to tell you that zodiac compatibility can be quite lovely. Assuming you believe in them, there is something beautiful about the stars holding information that we don’t; however, they are not everything! In the grand scheme of relationships, your sign may not be the best indicator of compatibility, and I’m here to give you an example of why. This little story will reaffirm your relationships, whether platonic or romantic, with the ones you hold dear to your heart.

Our story begins in 1992; two individuals are set up on a blind date by a mutual friend. The date goes swimmingly, and they start dating shortly after. From crying over 1994’s The Lion King to attending friends’ weddings together, this couple seemed like the real deal; however, beneath the surface, their zodiac signs were raging a “bitter war”. Only time could tell when it would rise to the surface.

The first partner was completely independent; she had her own apartment, a solid job, and was financially stable: her life couldn’t have been any better. The same couldn’t be said for the other partner. Still sleeping in his childhood bedroom, and enjoying homemade meals after work, he was a typical “Momma’s boy,” if you will.

His reluctance – and stubbornness – to leave home and start anew with his ferociously independent partner, led the couple to separate after 6 years together (if I were her, I would have cut my losses 6 weeks in, but I digress). After terribly missing his partner and realizing that she was ‘the one that got away,’ he came groveling back, and – by his luck – she took him back.

Oh, and if you’re not an astrology junkie and didn’t already know, he was a Taurus, and she was a Leo. Could I make it any more obvious?

Anyway, the second time’s the charm because they married in 2002 and are still together to this day. By the way, the people I’m talking about are… my parents! Could you tell? So yes, Taurus and Leo individuals are both ‘fixed’ signs, meaning they stand their ground: a perfect concoction to butt heads at any time. My mom, a relatively free-spirited person, and my dad, the most stubborn yet anxious man I’ve ever known, have been together for over 30 years (minus the 6-month break). Ever since getting into astrology, I have wondered how that could be; still, throughout my years under their roof, it has become clear: they are compatible regardless of the cosmos’ predictions.

The Unlikely Couple Seeing Me off to Rome January 2023

From silly arguments over my dad’s experimental cooking in the kitchen or my mom dictating our family vacations, I have realized that love doesn’t necessarily need to be written in the stars, so to say; sometimes, you love someone just because you do. No fancy explanation, dissection of birth charts, or comparing who they should or shouldn’t be with, just… love!

So yes, I advise you to trust your gut as you navigate the complex system of relationships. Don’t stress over whether the person is a Taurus, Leo, Aries… or even a Pisces. Just remember, astrology is a beautiful, complex system we can use to make sense of ourselves and the world around us, but sometimes the people around us ignite the best qualities in us during our journeys throughout the cosmos. Therein lies the true magic.
